Police To Interrogate First Lady
By
Minkailu Turay
Lawyer
Charles Francis Margai has informed journalists that the Police will soon
interrogate the First Lady, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma and three others for alleged
trespass, malicious damage and robbery with aggravation.
Speaking
at a jam-packed press conference held yesterday at his private chamber on Rawdon
Street, Freetown, Lawyer Charles Margai alleged that on Monday
22nd April 2013 Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma instructed the APC Member
of Parliament Hon. David Johnson representing Constituency 111 to demolish the
wall fence and remove the makeshift shelter (Pan Body) on his land situated at
the back of Bintumani Hotel. He also alleged that the First Lady gave the M.P
the sum of Le20 million in order to hire APC thugs in the area to invade his
property and razed everything to the ground at about 2
a.m.
Lawyer
Margai said when he heard about the incident, he went to President Koroma at
State House on 23rd April, 2013 and informed him about the
conduct of his wife. He said in his presence the President tried to reach his
wife on her cell phone but did not go through. The President, he said promised
to get back to him. “But despite the urgency and seriousness of the matter the
President failed to call me up until now” the outspoken politician said. He said
he then reported the matter to I.G. Francis Munu but he too treated the matter
with levity.
Mr.
Margai said this notwithstanding on the 29th April, his driver,
Emmanuel Lawundeh with his wife alongside one of his cooks, Joseph Anthony and
his family were brutally assaulted, wounded and forced out from the same land
where they had resided for long by the security guards of Madam Sia
Koroma. He named the two OSD personnel manhandled his staff as Marrah M. 12598
and Bangura James 1258 and stressed that his men would have been sent to jail
had some people not intervened.
Mr.
Margai said presently the matter of assault on his men is being investigated at
the Congo Cross Police Station, whilst the alleged matter of land grabbing by
the First Lady is being handled by the CID Headquarters, Pademba Road. “I am
prepared to defend my property to the last. Sia Koroma is nothing” Lawyer Margai
told journalists.
He
explained that the First Lady earlier contacted him with the pretext to buy the
piece of land. He noted that the said land was the property of Basma Family
which was given to them by the erstwhile SLPP government in exchange for their
house at Spur Loop which the Chinese Embassy now occupies. The Lawyer said a
portion of that land was given to him by the Basma Family because of his several
legal services to the family. “But because Sia could not afford to pay the US
$150, 000 for the land, she decided to grab it together with mine,” he said
adding that he will leave no stone unturned to pursue the First Lady and her
band of rascals.
